Kaila Munkwitz (LEO/COMPETITOR)
Kaila Munkwitz was born and raised in Long Island, New York. While her immediate family showed no interest in firearms, they did instill in her a sense of dedication and commitment to the community around her. In a family full of nurses, teachers and police officers, Kaila journeyed across the United States searching for her calling.
Kaila graduated college in 2015 with a degree in biology and found herself in Bozeman, MT maintaining trails in the back country of Yellowstone National Park. After a quick but grueling stint out West, she moved to Florida. In 2018, she completed the Florida Basic Recruit Training Program and became a Conservation Officer with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
Kaila had never shot a gun prior to her basic law enforcement training. About a year into her career, she noticed a big gap in her firearm capabilities and weapon handling. Was she qualifying? Yes. But was she proficient? She would tell you no.
A colleague introduced her to dry firing and ultimately got her interested in tactical shooting competitions such as the Tactical Games. From here, her passion and dedication to learn as much about firearms and precision shooting exceeded even her expectations. Since 2018, she has competed in several Tactical Games, Patriot Games, rucking challenges, and Proving Ground competitions.
Kaila also realized how much physical fitness affected her shooting during these competitions. To be a competitor, she dove headfirst into the gym, and dialed in her nutrition. She’s competed in various powerlifting and local CrossFit competitions and completed her L1 CrossFit Coach Certification.
Kaila is now a K9 handler for a Sheriff’s Office in North Carolina. Kaila trains to help keep herself, her fellow Law Enforcement Officers, and the public safe. But she coaches to inspire, motivate, and help shooters and athletes push past the limits they have set upon themselves.
