I took the Pistol Analytics Course in April 2022. John was able to clear up a lot of questions I had with how to shoot a pistol effectively and how to diagnose issues I was having. My biggest takeaway was how terminology translates to action. He was able to clearly explain concepts and break them down into easily understood chunks. He also was able to make the class entertaining through humor and an easy to talk to demeanor. Definitely recommend taking a class from John Carughi.
Going into this class as a beginner, I didn't know what to expect beyond basic firearm safety. I soon realized that I discovered a gold mine of information that I hadn't ever heard even passingly mentioned by anyone I've ever met at a range.
There is a classroom portion that lasts for hours, and it highlights the fundamentals you need in order to become a proficient shooter with a pistol. This portion becomes super important later on when you take your new knowledge to the range.
I was a terrible shot and I was doing basically everything wrong, but with the knowledge I picked up earlier, it became infinitely easier to receive a critique from the instructor, then use that information as a frame of reference to be able to quickly fix my mistakes, which I made a lot of.
Despite the many mistakes, the instructor, Rughi, felt like a teammate who genuinely wanted me to succeed. Critiques were delivered clearly and without any hint of a condescending attitude. I was reassured several times that practice is everything and that as long as I kept working to nail down those fundamentals, the better a shooter I would be.
Rughi was a class act and his attitude gave me the motivation and encouragement to improve.
Warning: Although the instructor’s name is John, this is not the class for you if you want to execute flashy John Wick type drills.
However, if your goal is to learn the fundamental skills necessary to become a proficient handgun shooter than this is the course for you.
John may not have SF tabs or a shiny trident next to his name, but, what he does have is substantial real-world experience training all levels of shooters. He’s trained Marines, Civilians, Foreign militaries, and even adapted-shooting techniques for persons with disabilities.
The classroom section lays the foundation for practice and the small class sizes allow John to provide individuals the attention and instruction they need to make corrections.
You’re not going to leave this class ready to perform nighttime raids in a foreign lands. However, you will leave with the information and toolkit to create a solid foundation for advanced skills.
Thanks John, I’ll be back!
Rughi breaks down the fundamental components of shooting a pistol. I’ve never had a class where it was explained with great detail each fundamental component of shooting & the importance it bears. I especially appreciate that he adapts to a degree of communication that is best received when providing instructions to a student. Though it is a class, it will feel like a 1-to-1 session.
The class is quite interactive & thought provoking - analyzing the many aspects of marksmanship. The foundation of the class will keep you questioning the process in how you employ your movements in regard to shooting a pistol. Now when I question “why my shot went here instead of thereâ€, I’m able to self-identify the skills/areas I need to improve on.
Rughi is a wealth of knowledge. From his formal training to real-world events to applications he’s tested on the range, Rughi is a phenomenal instructor. He can teach, apply & demonstrate the skills of marksmanship - the hallmark of a lead-by-example instructor.
Based on what I’ve learned here, I wish this was the 1st shooting course I ever took.
It's no secret that pistols aren't the easiest firearms to shoot. John's class however, will hammer the fundamentals of pistol shooting home, make you a safer shooter and put you on the road to becoming a better one. I'd recommend the class to anyone no matter their skill level and reason for getting into shooting. A great teacher should be able to work with shooters of all skill levels in a class, and John does just that. He will help you learn to identify and correct your mistakes, patiently and effectively. You'll go home with drills to run (live and dry fire) that will help your skill from perishing. If you're thinking of taking this class, don't wait, just do it.
